The Love You Fake
Martin fakes a red-hot romance with the mother of Frasier’s sworn enemy, while Niles tools around town on his high-tech “toy.”
Frasier’s running feud with his neighbor Cam Winston (Special Guest Star Brian Stokes Mitchell) escalates after water from Cam’s washing machine leaks into Frasier’s condo. To retaliate, Frasier bribes the maintenance man into turning off Cam’s water. Meanwhile, Niles glides in on a motorized personal scooter known as the Segway, which he’s riding as part of a psychological study on the effects of technology. Niles enjoys the attention the Segway gets, and seems to relish the fact that he’s forbidden to let anyone else try it.
After hearing about Cam’s washer, Daphne lobbies Frasier to buy one so that she doesn’t have to use the laundry facilities in the basement. But that’s not Frasier’s only concern. Like Cam, Frasier is upset when Martin befriends Cam’s visiting mother, Cora. Caught in the middle of their sons’ childish standoff, Martin and Cora decide to pretend they’re dating, figuring it’ll force Cam and Frasier to be nice to each other for the sake of their parents.
Daphne convinces Frasier to hook up a washer and dryer after threatening to ruin his favorite clothes in the community machines. Over at Café Nervosa, Roz urges Frasier to make peace with Cam. Frasier and Cam reluctantly call a truce – but not before drafting up a lengthy “treaty.” Eager to ride the Segway, Daphne tricks Niles into stepping off it for a moment, then she peels away. To seal their sons’ new friendship, Cora and Martin send them to the symphony together. But when Cora says goodnight to Martin, the two share a passionate kiss that indicates their phony romance could blossom into the real thing.
