I was so excited about this episode! I couldn’t contain my excitement when I found out that I would be styling Miss Piggy’s hair for the Oscars. Although she’s a Muppet, Miss Piggy is an icon. I grew up watching her on the Muppets, so this job was a privilege for me. I was so nervous about styling Miss Piggy’s hair; I didn’t want to forget anything! I wanted to ensure that I was well prepared. Unfortunately, my life is so unpredictable, along with traffic, I was late arriving. I know it’s never appropriate to be late for a job, however things do happen. Being the diva that Miss Piggy is, she let me have it for being late. In the end, Miss Piggy loved her fabulous red carpet ready look. Those are the moments that remind me to be appreciative of my God-given talents.
The beautiful Laila Ali, professional boxer, stopped by the hair studio requesting a style for a friend’s party. When I style Laila I have to keep her taste and preferences in mind. She doesn’t like wild and busy hair. Laila has gorgeous hair and she can get away with so many looks. I was pleased with her final look, and most importantly she was happy.
I absolutely loved working the Mikki Taylor (Essence magazine Editor-at-Large) and designer Kevan Hall (Kevan Hall Designs) photo shoot! The three of us make an exceptional team. I love the hectic atmosphere of working a photo shoot; time is money! Using Mikki and Kevan’s vision I was able to create some new and innovative hair creations that were successful. One of the most exciting parts about the shoot was that I was able to have my stylist team there with me. We were all able to put our differences aside and work seamlessly and professionally with one another. I love it when we can all come together to execute.
My most recent project is getting my new salon up and running. I’ve been in my current studio for the past 12 years; it’s time to change it up a bit. A fresher space will hopefully bring on some fresh ideas and attitudes. I’m ready to make some changes and watch my business to continue to evolve. Hang on tight to see what’s to come.
