So what’s really all the craze these days when it comes to planning a wedding? WE tv didn’t have to go any further than asking My Fair Wedding host David Tutera for this answer. With a client list including Jennifer Lopez, Tommy Hilfiger and Elton John, David offers the latest “it” way to design a wedding (think personal), as well as the latest “rule”—or lack of one!—for a bride.
“Most importantly, my brides—and everyone who is having weddings—need to make sure they include their personality into their special event, and these are just some great ways to do it,” says the entertainment expert, who has created memorable affairs for celebrities, politicians, socialites and royalty, and who brings Shannen Doherty’s dream wedding to life on WE tv’s new series, Shannen Says.
WE tv: What do you see as the latest trend in weddings?
DT: A strong trend for weddings this year—and next—is about creating an intimate environment, even if you’re dealing with a large guest list, as well as creating environments that are unexpected…meaning, using a tent but making it look and feel like a ballroom or fine restaurant. There are also going to be bold statements in color of red and deep burgundy in flowers, linens, lighting and fashion. I even infused color into my bridal gown collection, David Tutera for Mon Cheri.
Mind you, not red, but color is something a modern bride can feel confident wearing as the white gown is no longer a “must.” In 2013, there will be lots of rich plums and purple in the overall looks of weddings.
WE tv: Can you explain more about creating an “unexpected environment”?
DT: I’m doing this for a celebrity wedding this summer and I’ve done it for celebrities in the past. It’s favor tents: a special perfumery tent for the girls where they make their own perfumes and sip champagne while the boys go into a tent where they custom make their own cigars and sip on whiskey. It’s a way to add a unique form of entertainment to your party and your guests walk away with something truly unique.
