David Tutera’s Wedding Trends for 2011

From metallics to dessert stations, brides will fall in love with this year’s elegant wedding trends.

Many of my 2011 brides are looking for unique juxtaposition within the room by pairing modern floral designs with traditional settings. For example, a bride will choose a formal, ornate ballroom but select sleeker floral designs like low runners of paved florals, or tall slender arrangements with calla lilies with monochromatic color schemes.

Metallics are a color trend on the rise right now. For 2011, I expect to see them everywhere from linens to floral vessels and from table décor to bridal bouquet accents. Metallics are a luxurious touch that also adds a bit of luminous texture.

The concept of a “Change Out Dress” where a bride slips into a party dress for the reception is something I expect to see more of in 2011. Brides love this option as it allows them to show off two different looks within the night, as well as giving them the freedom to move and dance that a long and binding bridal gown does not offer.

In terms of wedding cakes and dessert, I notice a lot more couples skipping the traditional cake and instead opting for dessert stations with a selection of small gourmet treats, or even a monochromatic candy bar! Another unique idea that I have been pushing for is to serving two plated desserts at a table and alternating them, one for every other guest, which promotes sharing and interaction!

Another element I see growing in 2011 is the “After Party” where a couple will invite all, or a select few of their guests to continue their celebration into the night in a more relaxed party setting. And with all the planning and anticipation that goes into a wedding, it’s no wonder why couples choose an after-party as a way of extending their big day!
