Vinny turns 21, but with all of the responsibilities of being a new business owner, he hardly has time to celebrate, besides, he would rather celebrate if he wins at the annual Taste of Staten Island competition. For Vinny, the competition demands more than just a beautiful cake if he wants to hold onto his rank as the #1 cake artist. On top of defending his title, Vinny is also commissioned to bake a cake for beer connoisseurs Mark Zappasodi and Scott VanCampen for the launch of their mobile brewing sculpture at Killmeyer’s Old Bavaria Inn and Biergarten. In addition to having to come up with a creative design for the cake that will impress his two art savvy customers, they want him to find a way to infuse their beer into the recipe!
Meanwhile, Cousin Joe, Cammy, Kristin and Grandpa Joe plot behind Vinny’s back about how to celebrate his 21st. They all agree that the best idea is a surprise trip to the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. So, when they arrive with a limo to pick him up, Vinny’s shock is coupled with worry as he ton of work to do back at the shop. He finally consents to leave the shop to the girls. But, they have a little scheming of their own and plan a birthday surprise by turning to Vinny’s mentor and first employer, Carol Franzetta, to deliver on a cake that will be grand enough to celebrate this important birthday.
While the girls are hard at work in Staten Island, Vinny’s sister Kristin and his boyfriend Spiro are doing some scheming of their very own inundating him with celebratory drinks. When Vinny heads back to the shop with a killer hangover, however, he has to finish the beer cake. Eggs, sugar, and beer are the last things he wants to see, smell or touch but he has a job to do so he has to buckle down and finish the cake.
Vinny learns that being a business owner and successful cake artist means having to push himself to the limit, even when he isn’t feeling 100% and hopefully the results will be something celebratory.
