Season 3, Episode 13
“A Father’s Daughter”
Erin searches for her half sister she has never met after her father passed away from kidney cancer.
Since her father’s untimely death from kidney cancer in 2008, Erin has been dedicated to finding his daughter, her long lost sister that she has never met. This sister was the product of an affair and was placed for adoption when Erin was 8 years old. Because Erin had a very close relationship with her father, finding her sister is very important because she is the only connection Erin has left to her father. She wonders what she looks like, if she knows anything about the circumstances of her birth and, most of all, if she knows she has a sister who desperately wants to find her. With her mother’s support, Erin has asked Troy to help her locate the last piece of her father that is out there somewhere, which would heal the emptiness in her heart that has been there since she first learned of her sister and only grew when her father passed.
The Searcher- Erin –seeking her younger half-sister, Katie- Erin found out about her father’s missing child when she was 13 years old and an unknown birth certificate was discovered in her mother’s box of keepsakes. Since that moment, this missing child has been in Erin’s thoughts everyday but never spoken about in the house around her father because it was a sensitive subject. Erin’s dream is to recover a piece of her father and to gain a sister that she can share memories with while developing a sisterly bond and relationship.
The Searchee- Katie – Erin’s younger half-sister- Katie has always wanted a sister to call her own; someone she could trust to always be there for her. Growing up knowing she was adopted was one thing but Katie was always led to believe a harsh rumor that her biological siblings persuaded her biological parents into placing her for adoption. When Katie received the phone call from Troy stating that a biological sister has been searching for her and that her only wish is to meet her, Katie instantly began to cry. It turns out that meeting her sister could be just as healing for Katie as it would be for Erin, if not more. Katie is excited for the chance to have the sister and to hear the story behind her adoption.
