One Name Celebs

From rock stars to rappers, media moguls to comedians, some celebs are popular enough to be known by just one single name. Rumor has it that Lindsay Lohan is considering dropping her surname to really elevate herself to superstar status. (At least it will shorten the troubled starlet’s signature when she has to sign all that courtroom paperwork.) Check out our list of the top one-name celebrities.

Beyonce
Gorgeous and talented superstar Beyonce Giselle Knowles is known as simply Beyonce. Even though she can identify with all the “Single Ladies,” she’s “Crazy in Love” with her hubby Jay-Z.

Sinbad
David Atkins, who later took the stage named Sinbad, started his stand-up comedy career when he was in the Air Force. He’s now and accomplished actor, comedian and WE tv reality show star! Click here to learn the story behind his name.

P!nk
This Grammy-award winning artist was born Alecia Beth Moore. According to various sources, she coined the stage name Pink, after Reservoir Dogs character, Mr. Pink.

Ke$ha
Before glitter, outrageous eye makeup and swapping her name’s “s” for “$,” a young Kesha Rose Sebert was inspired to sing and write by her songwriting mother.

Usher
Famous for his amazing dance moves and chart-topping songs, Usher Terrence “Terry” Raymond IV is referred to his millions of fans as simply, Usher.

Fabio
Who needs a last name when you speak the language of love? Italian model, actor and author Fabio Lanzoni (who knew?) is best known for baring it all as long-haired, shirtless “Fabio” on the covers of romance novels.

Seal
Shortening Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adelo Samuel to just “Seal” is less of a mouthful for wife Heidi Klum to say when the couple famously renews their vows each year.

Oprah
You’ll never hear anyone ask, “Oprah who?” when referring to this uber-famous media mogul. Oprah Winfrey’s first name spelled backwards is actually the name of her production company, Harpo Productions, Inc.

Sting
We won’t call “The Police” about Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner going by the professional name, Sting.

Madonna
It’s easy to “Express Yourself” when you just go by a one-word name. Born Madonna Louise Ciccone, this top selling female artist is known worldwide for her serious “blond ambition.”

Cher
Cherilyn Sarkisian certainly doesn’t roll off the tongue as easily as just Cher. From hit songs to serious movie roles, Cher has become a cultural icon over the last six decades.

Prince
This singer-songwriter went through several unusual phases with his name, including going by an unpronounceable symbol, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, and even an abbreviation – TAFKAP. But Prince Rogers Nelson will always be known to his loyal fans as Prince.

Bono
U2 lead vocalist, humanitarian and activist Bono was born Paul David Hewson. It is said that he was given the nickname “Bono” by a friend. “Bono Vox” is an alteration of Bonavox, a Latin phrase that translates to “good voice.”

Rihanna
SOS! Rihanna’s full name is actually Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Going by just Rihanna must make her feel like the “Only Girl in the World.”

Nelly
It wasn’t “Just a Dream” for Cornell Haynes, Jr. to become a rap star. Going by the stage name Nelly, he tops the charts “Over and Over” again.

Shaq
Basketball MVP, Shaquille Rashaun O’Neal, nicknamed “Shaq,” credits The Boys & Girls Club of America for giving him a place to shoot hoops as a kid.

Diddy
He arrived on the rap scene as Puff Daddy. Then it became P. Diddy. Now it’s just Diddy.  Although, sometimes this uses his given name, Sean Combs.

Björk
If your name was Björk Guðmundsdóttir like this Icelandic singer-songwriter, you’d probably just go by Björk too.

Shakira
Columbian singer, songwriter, producer, dancer and philanthropist Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripol’s hips don’t lie.

Elvis
Music legend Elvis Aaron Presley is known as not only Elvis, but also “The King of Rock and Roll.”

Jessica Solloway is a Washington, DC based writer and producer. From wedding planning to work, dating to dieting (and everything in between), she enjoys writing about lifestyle topics women want to know about. Jessica received her degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Check out her blog, The Savvy Mrs.
