Ever since I can remember I’ve always had an interest in martial arts. I used to love watching Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li, but it wasn’t until I saw Blade with Wesley Snipes that I decided to pursue it. It was like martial arts with soul, and that’s how I wanted to be. After all my injuries from basketball I felt now was the time to start following my childhood passion.

I’ve been training with my teacher Master Sayed Qubadi for a little over a year now and loving it. I recently received my black belt in Hapkido, a form of martial arts derived from Korea. Perhaps after achieving this goal is when I felt it best to take my skills to the next level. No more safe haven sparring, I wanted to test my abilities in the real arena! I tried getting my dads opinion but he was too busy being a negative nelson so I decided to go straight to the source.

I figured my master would better understand my urge to compete competitively, if anyone would have my back it would be Master Sayed. Well to make a long and extremely embarrassing story short, he made a very persuasive argument and I decided not to do it. Looks like I’ll have a lot more time to focus on school and music now…awesome.
