Albert Szent-Gyorgy, who discovered Vitamin C, said “Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought”. This is a truly profound bit of insight from the man who noticed a powerful use for a simple vitamin. We all saw the show last night, and here is what I noticed as I was watching it: Hats off to the WE Network for leaving some seriously funny moments in-tact and as uncensored as practicable. Shannen and I set out to do a show with humor, honesty, and a little something different, and I felt that came through very successfully last night. I hope whomever was watching did too. I found myself laughing out loud many times, and enjoying the glimpse into the relationship, even though it was my relationship. It made me appreciate Shannen and the family we have around us all the more. I was also reminded how funny she can be!
Last nights episodes were really interesting for Kurt and me to watch. I always say that this show is like the best therapy session, we can look back and see the things that we did wrong, or right. I have the utmost respect for Kurt’s career and he will be the first to tell you, that I am his biggest supporter. I also know, careers don’t last forever but your family and friends will be there through it all. Family is the most important thing to me and I treasure the people in my life, I hope I always make them feel like they are my priority.
Watching the show, Kurt and I were cracking up at each other. He is so funny and I hope you all got to see how special our relationship is. He can make me laugh even when I am standing in a dress made out of pigeon feathers, looking like a bad version of Bjork. My mom is my rock and is always fair in her assessment of my mistakes. She offers up endless love and support and I am truly blessed. Prague was so amazing, a beautiful place and a special time for Kurt and me. We got to unwind and reconnect from the pressures of everyday life and the stress of planning a wedding in such little time. My uncle Ben was so cute last night and really shows the kind of family I come from…just down home, normal people. Kurt’s parents are similar to my family, in that they are very humble, normal, down to earth people who love and support us.
The moments leading up to a wedding are so special, like my bridal shower. To hear my friends toast, how they feel about us and the support and love from them was amazing. And wasn’t Kurt adorable, he couldn’t even get through his speech to me! We have such love for one another and like every couple, we have fights but in the end, we always work things out and only get stronger. I really hope you all are liking the show, we are very proud of it and are thrilled with the job everyone did. Next up…WEDDING!!! Can’t wait for next week!
Putting yourself out there for a reality show is never an easy decision and with it comes the knowledge that some might like you and others will hate you. It’s definitely a humbling and enlightening experience that I am still learning from.
Relationships are hard work but with the right person, totally worth it, and for me, Kurt is the “right” guy. We have so much fun together, we respect each other, and we make each other laugh.
Ok so I hear ya on “Family Day” but family day isn’t about spending more time together, it’s about honoring my dad which is why it means so much to me. Before my dad passed away, every Sunday we would get together as a family and spend the day together. Cook, watch movies, play tennis as my dad played referee and just hang out. Since my father passed away, family day has become even more important to me because it’s holding on to tradition and honoring my dad and keeping that day alive for mom as well. When you start cutting into it, pretty soon it starts to go away and I try to not let that happen. I might not of explained myself that well in the show or to Kurt but I still think family day is sacred. And, for all you guys out there….Kurt goes surfing every morning and I LOVE my alone time!! I think it’s healthy to take down time.
You know, it’s funny watching this show because you can sit back and really “hear” yourself. There are times when I thought I was saying something in a nice way and then I watch the show and realize that I sounded abrasive…..good lesson to learn I think, there are always corners to be smoothed out. So for now, I am going to keep tuning in to the show and using it as therapy lol. Lot’s both Kurt and I can learn from it and watching how we sound to each other.
All and all, I am proud of what we all did with this show because it is HONEST! We are just us, no pretense, no playing it up. What you see is what you get and as you all might know, honesty is a trait I value. Hope you all liked it.
Got to go write a paper for class now, talk with you all later!
