WE had a craving for L.A. Hair, and WE figured you did too! Below are some fun facts about season 1 of L.A. Hair straight from the production company!
- In almost every scene in a bar or restaurant the crew is in the background as extras
- In the scenes that show a transformation from when clients came into and dramatically changed, although it is quick in the show, it can take up to 3 hours or more to actually do them
- Because the mirrors in Kim’s salon faced each other there was very few places for crew to hide during shooting and at the most there could only be 2 cameras inside and the audio people had to be outside the salon
- In finding a second salon for Kim, we considered at least 5 different locations throughout Los Angeles before finally settling on the location in Silver Lake.
- The stencil designs on the walls in the new salon were done by the art department especially for the couple weeks we were in there.
- There were at least 3-4 scenes in every show that were cut out but can be seen on the website as deleted scenes
- In many of the outdoor and sit down meal scenes you will see few people in the background because this is easier to control sound from the cast members talking
- It took 5 days to shoot a full episode, sometimes 6 with interviews
- Shooting took place in West Hollywood, Silver Lake, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Moorpark and Hollywood
- All the furniture in the second salon was sold off online after shooting was completed as the owners were moving their salon and wanted a new look
- When taping the interviews for the final show, Kim was watching the scenes and footage for the first time so all her reactions and thoughts were fresh.
- After the show began airing many of the calls Kim’s salon was getting was from people who wanted to come to LA to have their hair done at the salon. Some calls even were from fans who wanted to talk about the show with the receptionist (who wasn’t actually on the show)
- All the celebs that appeared were friends or clients of Kim.
When I tell you this was a BIG BLOW OUT… WOW! So China decides to keep hanging on as manager, looks like someone still has some courage left.
Kim and her surprise clients- we had a great time with these guys, I mean girls, I mean, well you know what I mean. Kim put me and China together, LOL. For what? So doing this wig, China, being China and not listening, burns the wig. LISTEN FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE WOMAN!!! So I’m thinking she’s upset because she burned the wig. This crazy girl is back in the color room laughing, LOL. Overall, the girls look great.
China still wanted Anthony to wear black. So this fool goes and gets real crazy in front of the clients. Boy, please keep on your clothes and NO MORE STRIPPING! THIS IS WORSE THAN YELLING IN THE SALON.
Brely Evans was great. She is so warm and has a great sense of humor, and she looked great.
So China wanted to test me on being a manager. How do you handle a stylist, with a client waiting for them, being late without calling in? You hit them right in the pocket by giving that client to someone else and put the stylist on cleaning duty. No client, no $$$$$. China still didn’t get it. WOW.
Well, it’s about to get HOT in here. China pulls Angela to the side to ask why she is late. Angela then says she had some personal things she had to attend to this morning. To that, China asks, “That was more important than the clients?” and Angela responds, “Yes.” So when she goes back and tells Kim, China tells Kim the first part of what Angela said and puts on the end “that was more important than the clients.” Although Angela did not say the last part, she did agree to it.
Then here comes the sign, which I thought was tacky. But China did give Angela a choice to go home or hold the sign outside and Angela chose the sign. Now I would have gone home. I’m not holding no sign up outside looking crazy.
It spirals out of control when Angela decides to change the words on the sign: “Honk if you have haters.” Oh boy, I know this was not going to be good.
Kim loses it. Then Angela curses at Kim and China, which was so inappropriate. Where was I when all this was going on? No where near it because it is SO unnecessary to be that ghetto in a salon. When it gets to that point, everyone needs to go.
This could have all been avoided if Angela would have just did two things: first, call and tell someone you are running late; second, just go home and forget about holding up the damn sign.
So Kim tells Angela she has to go. What happens next nobody knows. Thanks everyone for your support of the 1st season of L.A. Hair. Peace and love.
What a great title because there was some “Tick Tick” going on in here. China loses it. The pressure is getting to her and its only day 2. So what happens exactly? Well, there is a meeting and I, of all people, get dragged into it because of one’s issues. In comes Kim with this towel on her head looking like she going to tell my future, LOL.
Here comes a fight between Jazz and Kim. Jazz doing Kim’s hair was hilarious. Your bangs look good Kim….I see somebody is seriously crushing on some Frank.
Mrs. L.A. Gangster Rapper from Burbank is hilarious. She and China did not get along well at all. She really got under China’s skin. China is boiling as Angela and her client continue to talk about her. It’s getting heated. When Kim was talking to China and asking her to apologize to the client, she breaks downnnnnn. WOW. China, you have to have thick skin to manage but your attitude has to be mild. I hope the lesson was learned.
WOW Kim, that’s a big space. Do we need all that room? LOL. Can’t wait!
I loved the place for dinner. I was not too excited about the news, but like I said, as long as I’m making the same money, I can work anywhere. But the blow was that you put China in charge of your empire. Wow, that was a shocker. But it is your salon and it is your decision and I respect that. But do I understand it? Uhhh, no.
So I had to gather a meeting with a few of the colleagues to get their opinions on the news, and I was not surprised when they agreed that putting China in charge was bad news. We had to put China to the test because she only had the position for five minutes and was giving orders already at dinner.
A temporary location and manager– that’s a lot to take in one day. Kim, you took us a little far out to this new location, and we didn’t know what to expect. But when the doors opened to the salon it was fabulous. Good job!
China, don’t you think the position went to your head a little bit?! Just a LITTLE?!? Kim has a whole lot of confidence in you. I don’t know why, but it must be something about you that we just don’t know. We will see.
I really enjoy cutting hair, but most of all, making my clients look and feel good. Jarred was a cool guy, but after his haircut I brought him back in the now.
Okay, it’s time to get my feet done, so me and Jazz made a day of it. And why did she have to say something about her feet? I tried to keep my eyes straight ahead and not detour down to her feet. But she insisted on talking about them. I just think that should have been a closed conversation and not include me.
The first day with China was not the best, but we got through it. What’s going to happen next?
Brandy and Monica looked incredible for the video shoot. Good job, Kim. Second day with China (the manager) and she is late. The negative energy came in with her, and it went down hill from there. Stay tuned…
Angela, I’m sorry, baby girl, but you are headed for self destruction on this path. You are picking the wrong path right now! It’s always good to see Eve. She is so cool and down to earth. Eve is a beautiful young lady, so anything would look great on her. Good job on the hair, Angela; a very clean look.
Angela, so yes Kim is up there, but you are not ready to be up there with her, at least not yet. One day you will, but my concern is how you get there, and from what I’m seeing, you may not get there if you keep this up. Come on, Angela… you came back to the salon and bragged about it. Wow, you’re bold.
Remember you have a clientele because Kim helped you get one, so don’t you think there should be some loyalty there? Or at least some respect? I wonder how you would handle that situation if the shoe was on the other foot. Respect contracts that were put in place of any business or you will find yourself in heat of trouble. We may not like it, but it is their business. These actions are grounds for termination.
Angela, I don’t know everything, but I do know how to respect this industry and salon protocol. You need to listen and learn. It just might get you where you want to be.
Mary J is the queen of R&B. Great job Kim, very professional. The spray was funny, LOL. Beauty is pain.
“Extension Plus” is a playground for hairstylist.
This meeting with Angela is to try to talk some sense into her. She says she wants to grow, but in order to grow you have to listen. I hope it helps.
Shari Headley is still so beautiful to me. I love that she was confident enough to cut off her long hair. It goes to show that you are not your hair. You should be able to rock anything. Great job again, Kim.
China, as always I tried to be as nice as I can be to anyone who is new to the salon just to make them comfortable. But here we go with the crazies. I know China went crazy for a moment because she hit me with a comb. “Oh no, she didn’t!!” And I understood China’s point, but she missed my point in the process and look at the results. Hmmm. Kim we have another loose cannon in the salon. Help us, Lord!
Basically, it’s never a dull moment on #LAHair !!
What can I say? Omarosa: OMG, funny as hell! Poor CHARITY she had no clue what was coming for her that morning.
Anthony, I’m sure by now you know what tender headed means; sorry about that bud! It was unprofessional of me to pull your hair, but you learned quickly I see. LOL Next time you should ask the client, “Do you mind if I cut your rubber band?” It would help alleviate the problem.
So Angela, Omarosa is a diva – how can you relate? Now that’s funny. Also, Omarosa’s hair looked great. Good job, Kim!
Jazz, I love your openness. God has bought you a long way. Keep going higher. I love that you guys are working on your relationship, because it is never too late. Keep up the good work.
Angela and Dontay, two peas in one pod. Careful, it might get crowded in there. Dontay, I agree… Charity looks like she is not all there.
Now Angela, you know how Kim is; why would you of all people, who used to be her assistant, add more fuel to the flame? You are going about this the wrong way young lady. Now Anthony, that’s one gig you should have passed up.
Wow, Kym Whitley, what that hell is going on under that scarf?! LOL Kym said Angela was crooked eyed for doing that slant bang! I thought she did a good job on her hair, just that the bangs should have been cut a little different. Kym, your hair looked great.
The photo shoot… WOW! If you are the stylist in charge of the shoot, it is you that makes the final decision, NOT the assistant. Anthony, you are in the middle, so man I would not want to be in your shoes right now. I know things can happen, but clips coming out of the hair when the camera begins to roll is not good. That means they were not put in correctly in the first place. I think you need to learn a few more things before doing another shoot (just my opinion) so you won’t look bad. Even Anthony himself said this would have never happened with Kim, and you have a lot to learn and have a long way to go.
Charity, Charity, Charity, Charity… what are we going to do with you? LOL You are messing with the money. Sorry, Charity, but you had to go. I could not help you with this one, baby girl. But come on, you have to agree you are not a receptionist!
WOW! Anthony, your girl Angela threw you under the bus by telling Kim, although you both agreed not to say anything about the shoot. And Angela, you know Eve is Kim’s client, so listen to Dontay for a change. BUT I know you will not, so let’s move on.
