Do you like to read inspiring stories before you go to bed at night, or in the morning before you start your day? Well, each month, Ladies Home Journal, a We Volunteer Partner, is publishing stories about people making a difference.
This month’s issue features these do-good stories:
* Let’s Pitch In: 7 Volunteering Activities to Do with Your Family
* Fair Winds Trading: Helping Rwandans Build Their Lives
* The Do Good Tour 10,000 Miles of Good Deeds
They’ve also created monthly Good Deed Challenges for you to join:
* August – Donate Your Shoes
* July – Make Your Voice Heard
* June – Support Locks of Love
* May – Donate Your Glasses
For this month’s challenge, Donate Your Shoes, the folks at the LHJ offices are collecting shoes for Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that facilitates the donation of shoes to people who need them. You can support Soles4Souls by donating your own shoes, or hosting a shoe drive in your community. Soles4Souls even has people available to answer your questions about donating shoes via live chat.
If you would prefer to make a cash donation, Zach Braff and Donald Faison of Scrubs are helping Soles4Souls raise enough money to purchase 50,000 pairs of shoes in 50 days at www.50000shoes.com (the promo video on the site has some, err, guy humor, so be forewarned).
Another celebrity who is supporting Soles4Souls is Green Day’s bassist, Mike Dirnt. According to The Shoe Dish post, flat tuesday: mike dirnt teams up with soles4souls, the musician will, “donate all the proceeds from his 45 RPM shoe, created in collaboration with Macbeth Footwear’s Studio Project, to Soles4Souls.” An extra plus is that the shoes are vegan, so no animal products are used in their construction.
You can find out more about Soles4Souls on their website, soles4souls.org and follow their up-to-minute news on their blog, soles4souls.blogspot.com.
