Kiva Cards: The Do-Good Gift That Keeps on Giving

Over the past couple weeks I’ve offered holiday gifts ideas for animal-loving do-gooders, for gifts that support children’s education around the world, and for fair trade gifts. Today’s holiday gift idea, a Kiva Card, supports low-income entrepreneurs around the world. Kiva is a nonprofit that connects people through lending to alleviate poverty. Here’s how it works:

1. Give your friend a Kiva Card for $25, or more. You’ll be able to print it out, or send it to them via email, Facebook, or regular mail.

2. Your friend can redeem her Kiva Card, and make a loan to a low-income entrepreneur. She can choose a borrower based upon where they live in the world, and what their business is about (e.g. clothing, arts, agriculture).

3. As the loan is paid back, your friend will receive updates from the borrower, and be able to fund another loan. It’s a do-good gift that keeps on giving!
