Bio:
Junior U.S. Senator of Illinois. Age 46, married with two children.
Obama grew up in Hawaii and then spent four years of his life in Indonesia. He worked as a lawyer, civil rights attorney and community activist before serving public office. Obama served on the Illinois Senate from 1998-2004, then elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004.
In February 2007, announced his intention to seek the Democratic Party's nomination for President in the 2008 Presidential election.
Economy:
Supports tax incentives to companies that keep jobs in the US.
Healthcare:
Believes everyone should have the right to affordable healthcare and supports universal healthcare.
Education:
Opposes education vouchers at private schools, which undermines public schools. Supports strengthening public schools through equipping poor and rural districts and provide resources to disadvantaged students. Also supports higher merit pay for teachers.
Homeland Security:
Wants earmarked money to go to heavily high-risk areas. Supports legislation to strengthen chemical plant and drinking water security and to enhance disaster preparedness.
War in Iraq/Afghanistan:
Wants full U.S. withdrawal by 2008 and opposes troop increases to Iraq. Has never been in support of the war.
