About Jeanine

Bride’s Name & Age:  Jeanine, 24
Bride’s Occupation:  Student
Groom’s Name & Age: Thomas, 25
Groom’s Occupation: Racetrac Petroleum, Inc.

How long have your been dreaming of your wedding day? When I saw the movie Bride Wars, it dawned on me that I didn't have that much planned for my wedding. Girls have places and colors picked out for their weddings at age nine, but for me I was 22 and had no dream in mind. After watching the movie, I bought the magazine The Knot. I imagined a wedding surrounding by nature. My taste is vintage/chic, so my wedding would definitely reflect that. My wedding must also reflect romance and love.

What is the approx. wedding budget? $7,000-$10,000

Who’s paying for the wedding? My dad and me.

What happens if you go over budget? Thomas gave me this low end budget, and so I am doing so many DIY projects to meet this budget. If I go over, then I am taking away his honeymoon. He will be so upset because he works over fifty hours a week, and hasn't taken a vacation nor do we barely have alone time.

Did you hire a wedding planner?  How are they doing? No, that's a waste of money. I'd rather be stressed than put my wedding in someone else's hands, so that things always end up getting changed because of their professional opinion.

How helpful has the groom been (or not) in the planning process? Thomas is very hard to stay focused. He is all over the place but since he is more tech savvy than me, he is responsible for printing the programs, note cards, etc. However, it doesn't work out that way. Once he prints one invitiation properly, he tells me, "Okay, you can do the rest." He doesn't care about the floral arrangements, and is always suggesting things but never takes action.

Have you or your groom been married before?  Any children? If so, what role will the kids play on the wedding day?  Neither of us have been married before, however we have two kids. One together, Jaden, who will be an usher, and another son of mine, Julien, who I had when I was 16.

Tell us about your family. How have they been involved in the planning process?  Throughout this whole process, my family has been irritating me. My mom is childish and said she wouldn't be coming to the wedding, which resulted in me blowing up on her, so to this day we don't speak. Therefore, the rest of my family may or may not be attending the wedding. However, my dad is my heart, and even though we clash when I'm rude, he is always there for me.

What’s the worst thing that could go wrong on your wedding day? That I wouldn't get my wedding license because Minnesota has a five day waiting period and it cuts close to the day of our wedding. There is a waiver we can get but the officiate says it's hard to get a judge to sign the waiver.

What disagreements have come up about the wedding?   Well Thomas' family is a lot bigger and more stable than mine. Originally my wedding was supposed to be in Florida, but I went to Minnesota and fell in love with the flower garden at Como Zoo. So I changed the location. My mom feels that having my wedding in Minnesota is just a way to keep her out of the wedding because she doesn't like traveling. I also kicked my Maid of Honor out of the wedding because we got in a huge disagreement, and at the last minute she decided she didn't want to get her dress, so I told her if she didn't get measured then she was out.

Has the engagement/wedding ever been called off, or in jeopardy?  If so, what happened and how did it get resolved?  Every time we get into a heated argument, depending on how intense it is, I call off the engagement. On New Year's Day, we got into a disagreement about something I cannot remember, but the next day we went for a walk to discuss what happened; he apologized and made up.

Define the type a bride you will be:  Everybody gets a different me. With my vendors right now, I have been very laid back, because there has not been any sort of mess up on their end. With Thomas, I cry, scream, or yell (especially nag). My dad and I just cry, and my mom and I just talk about my childhood and the role she played throughout my upbringing.
